Itinerary

Day 1 – THU (Sept 3 or Sept 17 ) – Arrive into St. Helier, Jersey (D)

Welcome to the enchanting island of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands — where French charm meets British tradition in a landscape shaped by sea breezes and history. Upon arrival in St. Helier, your senses awaken to the rhythm of island life: boats bobbing in the harbor, café terraces buzzing with conversation, and the scent of salt and sea carried on the wind. Our elegant base for the next several days, St. Helier offers the perfect blend of coastal vitality and small-town sophistication.

This evening, gather with fellow travelers for a welcome dinner — a chance to share first impressions and toast the beginning of our island adventure. The warmth of Jersey hospitality and the promise of the days ahead set the tone for a memorable journey through lands rich in legend, natural beauty, and quiet discovery.

Day 2 – FRI (Sept 4 or Sept 18) – Activities from St. Helier, Jersey (B)

St. Helier Harbour Stroll – 3.5 km, rated 1A

Today unfolds gently, with a leisurely stroll through St. Helier’s harbor with a local guide — a perfect introduction to Jersey’s maritime spirit. As fishing boats and yachts sway in the tide, we follow a scenic 3.5-kilometer route along the waterfront, uncovering the island’s layers of history and modern life. Depending on the tides, we may walk across the sands or take a small ferry to Elizabeth Castle, a storied fortress perched on a tidal island. Here, centuries of military history come alive amid sweeping views of the coast and sea, and the island’s resilience is on full display.

After time for lunch in one of St. Helier’s inviting cafés, we’ll visit the Jersey Museum and Art Gallery, an intimate and beautifully curated space that reveals the island’s complex heritage — from Ice Age settlers to the Occupation years. Those wishing for a bonus afternoon activity may enjoy tea and a garden stroll at nearby Samares Manor, where manicured borders, exotic trees, and fragrant blossoms create a soothing retreat just outside town.

Day 3 – SAT (Sept 5 or Sept 19) – Activities from St. Helier, Jersey (B)

Southwest Coastal Path: Corbiere Lighthouse to St. Aubin – 11 km, rated 3C

This morning, we set out for Jersey’s magnificent southwest coast, where sea cliffs and golden beaches frame one of the island’s most iconic walks. Beginning near the striking Corbière Lighthouse, we trace a section of the South Coast Path, following undulating trails past wildflower meadows, coves, and sweeping headlands. For those who prefer a shorter route, there are options to pause at St. Brelade’s Bay — a perfect spot for a seaside coffee or an early lunch. Those continuing onward will be rewarded with panoramic views and the timeless charm of St. Aubin, a harbor village filled with cafés and historic lanes.

In the afternoon, history takes a poignant turn with a visit to the Jersey War Tunnels, an underground network that reveals the island’s extraordinary wartime story. As the only part of Britain to be occupied by Nazi forces during World War II, Jersey holds a unique place in history, and the museum’s immersive exhibits honor the courage and endurance of islanders during those dark years. Returning to St. Helier, the evening is yours to enjoy — perhaps with a relaxed dinner along the waterfront or a quiet stroll through town as twilight settles over the bay.

Day 4 - SUN (Sept 6 or Sept 20) – Activities from St. Helier, Jersey (BL)

Northwest Coastal Path: Grosnez Castle to Devil’s Hole – 11 km, rated 3C

Today, we venture to the island’s wilder northwest coast, where windswept cliffs, sea-carved arches, and sweeping vistas reveal Jersey’s untamed side. Our walk begins at the ruins of Grosnez Castle, a ruined medieval fortress perched dramatically above the sea. From here, we follow the Northwest Coastal Path, an 11-kilometer route of rolling headlands and quiet coves, with options to pause at Grève de Lecq Beach — a sheltered stretch of sand perfect for a seaside rest. The rhythm of the waves and the cry of seabirds accompany us as we make our way toward the mysterious Devil’s Hole, a natural blowhole formed by the sea’s relentless power.

After a morning in the salty air, we reward ourselves with an included lunch at La Mare Wine Estate, where fine local wines and artisanal products reflect the island’s agricultural traditions. The afternoon offers a gentler pace at Hamptonne Country Life Museum, where restored farmsteads, apple orchards, and centuries-old buildings reveal rural Jersey as it once was. Surrounded by greenery and the hum of village life, it’s easy to imagine a simpler era when the pace of life was guided by tides and harvests. Back in St. Helier, the evening is free for you to enjoy dinner on your own.

Day 5 – MON (Sept 7 or Sept 21) – Activities from St. Helier, Jersey (B)

Northeast Coastal Path: Bouley Bay to Rozel Bay – 5 km, rated 3C

Our final full day on Jersey takes us to its quieter northeast corner, where history and landscape intertwine. The morning begins with a scenic 5-kilometer walk from Bouley Bay to Rozel Bay, tracing cliffside paths shaded by woodland and opening onto views of the French coast on clear days. The path winds through secluded inlets and lush valleys before descending to Rozel, a picture-perfect fishing harbor lined with cottages and boats.

From there, we travel inland to La Hougue Bie, one of Europe’s most remarkable prehistoric sites — a Neolithic tomb more than 6,000 years old, among the ten oldest man-made structures in the world. Standing within this ancient mound is a humbling experience, a glimpse into Jersey’s deep human past. After lunch our own in the harbor village of Gorey, we cap our Jersey stay with a visit to Mont Orgueil Castle, a spectacular medieval fortress rising above the sea. Its maze of stairways, towers, and battlements reveal breathtaking views across the island and toward the distant coast of Normandy. The evening in St. Helier is yours to savor, perhaps with a final stroll along the waterfront and dinner at leisure before we bid farewell to Jersey’s shores.

Day 6 – TUE (Sept 8 or Sept 22) – Jersey to Guernsey (BD)

St. Peter Port Intro Walk – 2-3 km, rated 2B

This morning, we sail through the English Channel on a scenic 90-minute ferry ride from Jersey to Guernsey, the second largest of the Channel Islands. As we glide past rocky islets and sea birds in flight, the islands’ unique geography unfolds — part British, part Continental, and entirely their own. Upon arrival in St. Peter Port, Guernsey’s capital, we settle into our charming hotel and enjoy lunch on our own amid the harbor’s café terraces and flower-filled lanes.

In the afternoon, we set out on a gentle walk with a local guide, exploring the town’s maritime heritage and wartime stories. We may follow the Potato Peel Pie Occupation Walk, inspired by the beloved novel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, or stroll the Seafront Bombings & Historic Gardens Route, which leads past coastal fortifications and peaceful gardens. Either choice will serve as a great introduction to the town. As evening falls, we gather for a welcome dinner, raising a glass to the days of discovery that await on this captivating island.

Day 7 - WED (Sept 9 or or Sept 23) – Day trip to Sark from Guernsey (B)

Island of Sark Walk – 10 km, rated 3B

Today brings one of the journey’s highlights: a day trip to Sark, the car-free island that time forgot. After a short ferry ride, we step into a world of flower-strewn lanes, horse-drawn carts, and sweeping ocean vistas. Sark’s dramatic cliffs and tranquil meadows invite exploration on foot, and our featured route — the Clifftop Paths to La Coupée and Little Sark — reveals the island’s breathtaking contrasts: rolling pastures, rugged sea cliffs, and the narrow causeway that links Sark’s two halves.

Lunch is enjoyed in one of Sark’s cozy cafés or perhaps outdoors overlooking the sea, surrounded by wildflowers and salt air. With no cars and few crowds, the island exudes a serenity rarely found in today’s world. In the late afternoon, we return by ferry to Guernsey, where the evening is free to enjoy a meal along the harbor or simply watch the sunset fade over Castle Cornet’s stone ramparts.

Day 8 - THU (Sept 10 or Sept 24) – Activities in Guernsey (B)

Guernsey Island Walk – 5-10 km, rated 2B – 3C

Guernsey reveals itself today as a walker’s paradise. Depending on an upcoming WAI scouting trip, we may explore one of several scenic routes — from the Beautiful Bays and Castles Trail, tracing seaside paths and historic fortresses, to the tranquil Nature Trails and Woodland Walks that wind through the island’s interior. Each offers its own quiet beauty, with views of turquoise bays, granite cliffs, and fields divided by ancient hedgerows.

Along the way, we may visit Castle Cornet, which has stood guard over St. Peter Port for eight centuries, or step inside the whimsical Little Chapel, an exquisite miniature chapel decorated entirely with seashells, glass, and pottery fragments. For literature lovers, Hauteville House, once the home of Victor Hugo during his exile, provides an extraordinary glimpse into the mind of one of France’s greatest writers. Once our WAI guides have a chance to scout out the wonderful trail possibilities on the island, a final plan will be revealed. It promises to be an exciting and fun-filled day. As evening falls, enjoy dinner on your own — perhaps sampling local seafood while reflecting on the island’s enduring charm.

Day 9 – FRI (Sept 11 or Sept 25) – Day trip to Herm from Guernsey (BD)

Herm Island Walk – 5-10 km, rated 2B to 3C

Our final island excursion takes us to Herm, the smallest and perhaps most idyllic of the Channel Islands. After a short ferry ride, we find ourselves in a world of turquoise coves, white-sand beaches, and winding footpaths. The island is entirely car-free and can be easily explored on foot — with a circular trail leading past Shell Beach and Belvoir Bay, where the water shimmers in shades of blue and green. There’s time to swim, relax, or enjoy lunch at one of the island’s casual cafés or picnic spots overlooking the sea.

Returning to Guernsey in the afternoon, we gather one last time for a farewell dinner, celebrating our days amid the Channel Islands’ beauty and hospitality. With stories shared and friendships formed, it’s the perfect close to this unforgettable island chapter.

Day 10 or Extension Day 1 - SAT (September 12 or Sept 26) – Depart from Guernsey home or on to London for extension (B)

Those concluding their journey today will depart from Guernsey for flights home, carrying with them memories of wild coasts and timeless island culture.

Guests joining the London Extension fly early this afternoon to the British capital, arriving in mid-afternoon. After settling into our hotel, we may venture out to nearby Kensington Gardens, where the Sunken Garden, Italian Garden, the historic Orangery, and meandering garden paths provide a peaceful introduction to London’s green spaces. The evening is free to enjoy dinner at leisure or perhaps take in one of the city’s celebrated evening performances.

Day 11 or London Extension Day 2 - SUN (Sept 13 or Sept 27) – Activities in London (B)

Westminster & City of London Walk – 10km, rated 1B

During our time in London, we plan to use the Tube and other public transport to get to and from our walk start and finish points. Today, we will most likely feature the Westminster & City of London Walk, where you will pass many significant buildings and places of interest that you may wish to visit along the way. Step into the story of London on this elegant linear walk that threads together the capital’s most iconic landmarks, beginning and ending at convenient Underground stations. From the soaring Gothic grandeur of Westminster Abbey, where monarchs are crowned and poets commemorated, the route glides past the stately serenity of Buckingham Palace and into the vibrant spectacle of Trafalgar Square, alive with history, art, and civic spirit. As you continue, the path leads through the storied lanes of Fleet Street, once the beating heart of Britain’s press, revealing layers of intrigue and tradition at every turn.

The walk culminates in a magnificent procession of architectural and historical highlights, from the commanding dome of St Paul’s Cathedral to the poignant rise of the Monument, marking the Great Fire of London. Ahead, the ancient stones of the Tower of London stand as silent witnesses to centuries of royal drama, before the journey concludes at the majestic sweep of Tower Bridge, one of London’s most enduring symbols. This thoughtfully curated route offers an evocative immersion into the city’s past and present, blending grandeur, atmosphere, and discovery in one unforgettable experience. The entire day will be devoted to exploring this part of London, so we encourage you to detour from the route at the places that most interest you and return to the hotel using the Tube once you’ve had your fill!

Day 12 or London Extension Day 3 – MON (Sept 14 or Sept 28) – Activities in London (B)

Today is free for you to enjoy other sights and sounds in London on another local walk, perhaps along London’s South Bank or to Kew Gardens. Or you can consider joining us for a full-day optional excursion that features Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral. This exciting outing in southern England uses a private motorcoach and is accompanied by an expert Blue Badge Guide who will bring these areas to life with insight and narrative. The experience begins at the enigmatic circle of Stonehenge, where admission and shuttle transport allow you to fully immerse yourself in the quiet majesty of this prehistoric monument, standing in contemplation of its enduring mysteries and the civilizations that shaped it.

From here, we continue to the graceful cathedral city of Salisbury, where a guided tour reveals the soaring beauty and spiritual resonance of Salisbury Cathedral, home to one of the finest surviving copies of the Magna Carta and a masterpiece of Early English Gothic architecture. The also includes a relaxed two-course lunch, offering time to reflect on the day’s discoveries while enjoying classic British hospitality. Blending history, architecture, and comfort, this thoughtfully curated excursion provides a memorable exploration of England’s timeless heritage. Back in London this evening, you are free to enjoy dinner on your own.

Cost for Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral Full-Day Excursion with Lunch: $389
We must have a minimum of 15 participants to offer this optional excursion.

Day 13 or London Extension Day 4 - TUE (Sept 15 or Sept 29) – Activities in London (BD)

Greenwich & The Maritime Heritage Trail – 13 km rated 1B

Today, using the Tube and public transportation once again, we enjoy a captivating one-way 13 km walk that traces the storied maritime soul of London, unfolding along the Thames in a graceful journey from past to present. Opportunities abound today to take a detour along your walk and enjoy a deeper visit to some of the many attractions we pass. Beginning near the iconic sweep of Tower Bridge, the route follows the tranquil waterside path of St. Katharine’s Way and the historic warehouses of Miller’s Wharf before arriving at the striking modern skyline of Canary Wharf, where glass and steel rise in bold contrast to the river’s ancient rhythms. Along the way, the air hums with tales of trade, exploration, and empire, guiding you ever eastward toward the timeless charm of Greenwich.

Here, history deepens as you encounter the Cutty Sark, once the fastest tea clipper in the world, and the harmonious grandeur of the Royal Naval College, set against the leafy serenity of Greenwich Royal Park. Ascending gently to the Old Royal Observatory, you stand astride the Prime Meridian — the very line from which the world measures time — before descending toward the treasures of the National Maritime Museum and the convivial charm of the Trafalgar Tavern, perfectly placed for a well-earned pause. This walk is an evocative blend of riverside beauty, seafaring heritage, and layered London history, offering a deeply memorable experience through one of the city’s most atmospheric quarters.

This evening we enjoy a short walk to a lovely bistro in Kensington where we celebrate a Farewell Dinner and cap off a fun few days in the capital city of London.

Day 14 or London Extension Day 5 - WED (Sept 16 or Sept 30) – Depart from London (B)

Our final morning unfolds at a gentle, unhurried pace, offering time to savor one last leisurely breakfast together and reflect on the extraordinary journey we have shared through the Channel Islands and London. From rugged coastlines and timeless villages to royal pageantry and world-class landmarks, this fantastic fortnight has woven together history, culture, and unforgettable landscapes into a rich tapestry of experiences and friendships.

Following breakfast, you are free to arrange your own transfer for your onward flights home. You can share a taxi with a friend or use the Tube at Gloucester Road Station (5 minutes walk from the hotel) for a cheaper but effective way to get to the airport. As you depart, you carry with you not only photographs and memories, but a deeper connection to the places, stories, and moments that make this part of Europe so special.  Thanks, as always, for choosing to travel with Walking Adventures!

What is a Classic Curated Tour?

With help from local experts and walking guides, these itineraries are crafted with extensive on-site planning by WAI tour planners.

When designing Classic Curated Tours, our objective is to capture the essence of destination—the history, culture, and natural wonders unique to that part of the world. We then build activities and walks that take us inside these characteristics.

Yes, these tours are educational, but they are also interactive and immersive; walking gets us off the bus and penetrates local cultures to not only see, but also touch, smell, and feel these special spaces.

Along the way, interactions with locals amplify the experience by sharing insights into the magic of that particular location.

In the case of Channel Islands & London, this is a brand-new adventure based on WAI guide Scott Isom’s personal experience on Jersey in the Channel Islands. The itinerary created here is a combination of Scott’s on-site knowledge and extensive remote research done on the other locations that we visit during the program. Scott will be visiting the Channel Islands and London just prior to our adventure to put the finishing touches on the tour and make any final adjustments necessary to improve the program for you!

Hiking on the Channel Islands

Our walks on the Channel Islands will include several routes that are better described as hikes, with a bit more elevation gain/loss and some trickier footing on occasion. They are beautiful and fulfilling hikes but will best be done with hiking boots and a walking stick. In almost all cases, though, we should have the ability to offer a shorter or easier walks for those interested in something less challenging. Still, to participate in the full Channel Islands program, be prepared for hiking rather than just walking.

Walking in London

Our walks in London are relatively flat and almost exclusively on paved sidewalks or trails. The walks that we will offer, provide you with the opportunity to pass many outstanding city landmarks. Walk directions and WAI guide services will be available for those of you who wish to do the full walk each day (with some well-timed breaks along the way), but you will also have the freedom to take more extended breaks at places of interest that you would like to visit. In these cases, you may not be with the group when you complete your visit and can use the walk directions to navigate the rest of the route. Also, we plan to use the Tube stations and other public transport to get from our well-situated London hotel to our walks and also to return to the hotel at the end of the experience. You will be able to pay for transportation as you go, using credit card or cash.

Walk Ratings

We generally walk at a pace of 2 to 3 miles per hour. A few walks on this trip are oriented more towards education, and therefore take longer due to stops for guide commentary.

Nature walks, on the other hand, generally continue at a steadier pace because we’re stopping less to talk. Many of our walks on the Channel Islands are nature hikes.

In most cases, we are not “strolling.” We are walking at a relaxed but steady pace. Your experience will be significantly affected by your level of physical fitness. If not walking regularly at home, we strongly recommend that you make a priority of “training” beforehand in order to both enjoy the trip and avoid medical issues due to overexertion. If you have questions about your ability to participate, please call our office at 1.360.260.9393.

We have adopted a walk difficulty rating system which contains a numeric indicator for trail incline and an alpha indicator for trail terrain. The explanation for this system is presented on the table below:

INCLINE

  1. Minimal hills or stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: <200 feet.
  2. Some moderate hills and stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: 200-1000 feet.
  3. Some significant hill or stair climbing. Cumulative elevation gain: 1000-2000 feet.

TERRAIN

  1. Almost entirely on pavement.
  2. A significant part of the route is on well-groomed trails with very few obstacles.
  3. A significant part of the route is on somewhat difficult terrain (rocky / rooted paths or soft sand).

Travel Insurance

WAI recommends travel insurance for financial and medical protection from any number of unforeseen circumstances that can arise before departure or during your Adventure. Many travel insurance providers are available for you to consider. Laura Pfahler and Sharon Mitchell of World Travel Inc. can provide travel insurance options for your WAI tour, as well as for your airfare. For those who purchase airfare through Laura, purchasing your travel insurance from her colleague, Sharon Mitchell, may be the simplest option.

Be aware that some travel insurance policies contain time-sensitive provisions (i.e. some benefits, such as coverage of pre-existing conditions, are available only if the policy is purchased within a certain number of days of the purchase of the travel package). In addition, remember that airfare is not covered by any travel insurance policy you may have purchased for the tour.

Check out Insurance Tips from World Travel for a short introduction to travel insurance.

Travel Insured International

Using the www.SquareMouth.com  website can be an easy way to compare pricing.

We suggest purchasing from a reputable, well-established insurance company (avoid buying insurance from an unknown company found only online). Travelers interested in purchasing “cancel for any reason” insurance coverage should be careful to check pricing and terms BEFORE they register for a tour. Recent changes in the international travel landscape has caused changes in the policies of some insurance companies, and made the purchase of this particular type of policy even more time-sensitive.

NOTE: WAI receives no commission or financial remuneration from World Travel Inc. In addition, WAI bears no responsibility for travel insurance benefits advertised by various credit card companies. If you are relying on this type of benefit for insurance, we advise you to verify coverage types and limits and that your purchase does in fact qualify you for this insurance.

What if WAI Cancels the Tour

Walking Adventures International reserves the right to cancel this tour departure with fewer than 15 participants, in which case registered participants will receive a 100% refund of payments received.

This refund policy contains one exclusion. Many suppliers require non-refundable deposits as a condition of booking services. Though it is rare, unforeseen circumstances can force us to cancel a tour. In cases where supplier’s non-refundable policies are imposed, WAI attempts to retrieve as much of these deposits as possible but cannot guarantee a 100% refund. In cases where full refunds cannot be obtained for a cancelled tour, we will do our best to transfer unrefunded money as traveler credits to be applied to a future tour to that destination.

Wellness Procedures for This Tour

Our approach to wellness on tour has traditionally been to encourage travelers to:

Focus on health before the tour so you start healthy.

Pace yourself while on tour; travel is inherently stimulating and can produce adrenalin boosts that mask energy drain. Guard your energy reserves and consider the length of the trip and whether to opt out of some activities and/or walks.

Be self-aware. If you feel yourself tiring or feel a bug coming on, take precautions to block it (e.g. extra rest, extra doses of vitamin C, etc).

If you feel a bug coming on or if you take ill, distance yourself from others when possible.

If you feel ill, isolate yourself towards the back of the bus and away from others.

Click WAI Wellness on Tour Policy to view the WAI policy on Wellness on Tour.

What Happens Next?

Soon after registration, an “Adventure Advice” email will be sent with critical information on flight arrangements as well as important steps to take in the months before your trip.

Afinal payment is due 90 days before departure (early June 2026) and is non-refundable after the due date. You will receive a prompt email from us a week or two in advance. Please see our General Tour Conditions for the full terms and conditions for participation in this Adventure.

Around 2-3 weeks before departure, you will receive a final email packet with details of the program, including hotel names and contact information, a list of fellow travelers, and a more detailed daily schedule.

We look forward to enjoying this beautiful slice of Britain together as we explore the Channel Islands and London!
